Reflective Journal

 Day 4  Date 06/10/2017

  • · Things I learned and did today: I practiced the sound “kit” and tones and intonations, reading sentences, dialogs and the text at pages 23-24. I read the dialog “Oh, look!..” and did the ear training of it (DRILL 2).
  •  For today, my English speech has the following features of Russian accent: Medium pitch level in the speech, the problem of distinguishing English tones and the difficulty of pronunciation of “fall-rise” and “rise-fall” and slow tempo.
  •     I would give 4 points out of 10 for my pronunciation today because of wrong intonation, slow tempo and wrong pauses in the sentence.
  • ·   For today, English speech of my partner has the following features of Russian accent: Lack of fluency and contracted forms (“it’s”, “the diggin’s”), wrong pronunciation of θ” sound (“think”), the wrong pronunciation of the conduction “of” and  weak forms (“but”, “to”).
  •   I would give 4,5 points out of 10 for my partner’s pronunciation today because of wrong nuclear tones and stresses in the sentences 5,6 and 7. Other sentences were pronounced quite well: she put right stress and used High-Fall and Low-Rise in the sentences 1, 2,4 and 8.
  •    Impressions for today’s lesson: I learned how to use Fall-Rise and show it on the tonogram correctly. Also, I wrote down some useful sites where I can practice my intonation (http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/estuary/)
  •  To improve my results, I should do the following task at home: I’ll do the ear training at the site and shadowing of the dialog “Oh, look…”.
