My thoughts about Downton Abbey:
It
was an interesting experience for me as it was my first time watching British
series in native language. I’d like to say that they absolutely differ from
American ones.
First of all, the main difference is language and, of course, pronunciation. I have to admit it was not as easy to understand dialogues as I thought: tempo and rhyme were very fast, weak forms and fluency made it impossible to understand some parts (especially dialogues between a cook and her assistant – their speech was very-very fast). Sometimes I had to rewind some moments only to get the main idea. Sometimes I switched on subtitles to make sure of the words. Anyway, I really liked listening to British accents.
Secondly, the visual part of the series was incredible: the directors and screenwriters, editors and artists, composers and actors did a great job and created the atmosphere of UK in the beginning of the 20th century – you believe in each actor’s gesture and each word they say.
