Day 8 Date 03/11/2017
- Things I learned and did today: I compared Russian accent with English one, picked out main features of English accent and learned about common mistakes in the pronunciation of Russian people. For example, the vowels such as “trap” and “dress” should be pronounced more energetic and our mouth should be opened wide, or the sound in the word “girl” should not be too soft and we do not need to round our lips.
- · For today, my English speech has the following features of Russian accent: wrong intonation (low-rise), medium pitch level and the use of aspiration after “s” .
- I would give 6 points out of 10 for my pronunciation today because of these mistakes.
- For today, English speech of my partner has the following features of Russian accent: lack of fluency, mid-level, nuclear tones, aspiration.
- I would give points 5 out of 10 for my partner’s pronunciation today because she made a good progress in pronunciation of consonants and vowel sounds.
- Impressions for today’s lesson: the lesson was very informative and useful: we wrote down the main mistakes in the pronunciation of a Russian person. Now it will be easier to notice them in the speech.
- To improve my results, I should do the following task at home: I’ll watch the 1st episode of “Downton Abbey” and do the tasks.
