Reflective Journal

 Day 9  Date 01/12/2017

  •  Things I learned and did today: I learned how to distinguish British and American “lot” sound and learned what tunes are used to express different feelings.
  • ·  For today, my English speech has the following features of Russian accent: problems with nuclear tunes and mid-level pitch, weak forms in some parts in the sentence.
  •   I would give 5  points out of 10 for my pronunciation today because of these mistakes.
  • For today, English speech of my partner has the following features of Russian accent: medium pitch level and the wrong aspirated sound, problems with weak forms, wrong pronunciation of words (obstinate, cocoa), lack of fluency and linking “r”.
  •    I would give points 4 out of 10 for my partner’s correct and clear pronunciation of “lot” sound because it was not open enough.
  • I would give 3 points out of 10 for appropriate intonation patterns because some intonation patterns were absolutely different (dialogues № 1,2)
  • I would give 6 points out of 10 for adequate units division because there were no mistakes in most of them, the speech units were correct and finished.
  • I found mistakes in my partner’s pronunciation in the following words: cocoa, obstinate, pompous.
  • Impressions for today’s lesson: the lesson was very informative and useful: we learned the difference between American and British vowel sounds. Now it will be easier to distinguish accents.

  • To improve my results, I should do the following task at home: I’ll practice the sound “thought” and analyze the dialogue 4.
